Why We Ignore Ourselves

After writing Monday's reflection, I found myself thinking about how difficult it can be to notice our own limits.
Most of us are not trying to ignore ourselves. We're simply busy. There are people who need us. Responsibilities that matter. Work that feels important. And often, by the time we realize we're tired, we've been tired for quite a while.
One of the things I learned in chaplaincy is that our bodies often speak before our minds catch up. Sometimes the body whispers. Sometimes it shouts.
The question is whether we're paying attention. This week, you might notice:
· Are your shoulders carrying tension?
· Are you sleeping well?
· Are you becoming impatient more easily?
· Are you feeling overwhelmed by things that normally wouldn't bother you?
· Do you feel energized by your days—or simply exhausted by them?
None of these are signs of failure. They may simply be signals. Your body's way of saying: "Something needs attention here."
You don't have to fix everything today. You don't have to solve every problem. Just notice. Listen. Be curious.
And perhaps ask yourself one gentle question:
What is my body trying to tell me today?
